About IAID 2018

  • The course intends to introduce design thinking and introduce and train the participants in the skillset which a modern day Industrial Designer has. It starts with basics to developing the complex process of bringing out the real product and then turns towards Automobile Design – the most sought after trend.
  • Automobile Design is at the very core of the Automotive Industry. A car’s design is not only functional but also an expression. This process of converting the designer’s or company expression into a real time model on paper or computer is where the Automobile Designer carves his space and skillset.
  • To tap into this huge potential pacing up in India this course is targeted to budding engineers and car enthusiasts as a launchpad into the glamour filled professional world of automotive and industrial design.

Course Highlights of IAID 2018

  • Planned Content
The course in two parts gives the participant equal chance to learn and implement. It starts with a holistic understanding of all aspects of industrial design and the process involved. The course then shifts to implementing the concepts learned through a simple product design or automotive project which further develops the skills and understanding of students.
  • 3D Representation Techniques
Digital design is a vital skill for all future professionals working in either design, engineering or computer aided styling. Besides the main modelling tools, quick proof of concept and mockups will be taught alongside thermocol modelling and clay sculpting.
  • Introduction To Modelling
3D modelling involves transferring 2D ortho drawings into physical objects. This activity enables students to visualize three-dimensional designs during the development process. Exploring the use of physical modelling techniques following both geometric and sculptural approaches, as a tool for studying the form of vehicles and their surface treatment through a series of creative exercises.
  • Materials For Automotive
A complete overview of both the aesthetic and the functional use of materials in the automotive field. The impact of the new technological advancements and new generation materials on the design process will be examined.
  • Transportation Packaging
The students go through the essentials of package engineering and the principles of ergonomics, aerodynamics and vehicle architecture in the perspective of an optimization of the operating efficiency. Occupants’ position, mechanical layout and human behavior in relation with the new frontiers of information technology and car computing, will be briefed in theory and practice.
  • Vehicle Branding and Ideation
Students are shown how to focus on the various possibilities for differentiating automotive products and thus achieve a competitive advantage making each manufacturer easily recognizable and memorable.
  • Automotive Industry And Design Culture
The history and the main facts of the motor-car industry relating this to its developments in the assembly/manufacturing processes, to the evolution of a variety of cultural references and to the changes in life-styles. Conscious understanding of modern car design and of the future possibilities offered in this field with a particular focus on sustainable issues.
  • Intensive Sketching Module
Sketching is a vital skill for expressing your ideas. Basics of sketching along with different methods and styles to achieve desired effect will be elaborated and trained into the students. Proportions and Perspective along with the importance of line weight with different tools and mediums. At the end of the workshop students will be having a commendable collection of sketchbook with good explorations.
